Craig and Anita Towns--2009 We have just returned from a return visit to Willowfield Lakes, now operated by Terry & Wendy Keavey who have only been there for a couple of months. Willowfield is a set of 12 cottages a couple of miles from Braunton, North Devon. They are very well looked after, and have a very modern fitted out kitchen and, what can only be described as, luxury bathrooms and nice fluffy towels. There is also a small/medium sized indoor swimming pool, with a really great hot-tub, which are both exclusive to guests and are usually empty. There is also a games room, a couple of children's parks, a fishing lake and lots of walks. This year we visited Ilfracombe, Barnstaple, Watermouth Castle, Appledore, Westward Ho!, Bideford, Instow and various other places. In previous years we have also ventured to Exmoor Zoo, The Big Sheep, The Milky Way, Bude and Atlantic Village, so the cottages act as a very good base to explore North Devon Coast. Also this year we caught the train from Barnstaple to Exeter - a very good day out. We also spent 2-3 hours "painting a pot" in Braunton - not cheap but great fun if you have a youngster in tow. The cottages are set in the middle of nowhere - the nearest pub must be 2-3 miles away along some well dodgy roads, but we thinks this adds to the charm of the place. The area is very unspoilt, take a walk/drive to Crow Point (do not be put off by the £1.50 toll charge - there is plenty of free parking when you get to the other end) - lovely beaches without all the modern day rubbish (Suggest that you take a picnic/flask as there are no shops whatsoever). There are some good places to eat in and around Braunton - Squires, The Aggi and The Williams Arms all spring to mind plus many other bistros, pubs and restaurants, and the usual chinese/indian/kebabs etc. There is also a small Tesco's approx 5-10 mins drive away which solves the breakfast and booze issues! The title of this post sums up our holiday - a good quality week for my wife and I to spend with our 6 year old daughter; walking, swimming, visiting interesting places, eating lots of very good local food and spending the evening with a nice bottle of wine in the cottage. How do I rate these cottages? Well, we stayed there last year, we stayed there this year and we already have booked for next (and there are a lot of other "repeaters" as well), and I am a very discerning business traveler staying well over 100 nights a year away from home in 4 star hotels. Terry and Wendy have lots of plans for the cottages, and we wish them all the very best of luck for the future. PS - Don't bother taking an alarm clock - the sheep wake you each morning at 8 o'clock on the dot!!! |

Many thanks for a lovely relaxing week at Willowfield. We have enjoyed exploring the coastal paths in areas we haven't been in before and made the most of local specialities- cream teas, and fish and chips! |

Willowfield is an ideal place for children. They loved it. Hopefully see you soon. |

Hi Terry & Wendy We just wanted to say thank you for welcoming us to Willowlake Cottages last week. We loved it so much (especially the pool) that we have today booked another week (via Farm & Cottage Holidays) at the end of July 2010. We’ve decided to change from Swallow to Magpie this time which we’re sure will be just as nice. Rebecca is already looking forward to playing on the play area and will no doubt be driving us mad with excitement! Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you next July. |

Hi Wendy & Terry Just wanted to drop you a line to say thank you, we all really enjoyed our stay last week. Charlotte and Ben had an absolutely fab time. I think we will probably book for next summer and as Charlotte will be at school we will need to book the school holidays so presumably I need to book soon in order to ensure the dates are available. Please can you confirm how much deposit you would require with a booking for next year. |

Hello, I just wanted to drop you a quick email to let you know how much we all enjoyed our holiday at Willowfield Lake last week. You certainly have a business with a great launch pad and tremendous potential. I think the children enjoyed the hot tub (top tub) the most. We enjoyed lapping up the final rays of sunshine in the evenings, looking out over the Burrows. As I said, we are planning to come back again next year. Is Swan available Saturday 7th August 2010 for 7 days and how is the price? Yours, Vicky Ponsonby |
